What is Remedial Massage

Remedial massage is a therapeutic treatment designed to address specific musculoskeletal issues and enhance overall physical health. It involves the assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries, pain, and dysfunction in muscles, tendons, and ligaments.

Why Remedial Massage

Consider booking a remedial massage if you have specific musculoskeletal issues, injuries, or chronic pain. Remedial massage is more targeted and therapeutic, focusing on deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue to address these conditions.

Tertiary Care

Remedial massage therapists work closely with other health therapists to provide comprehensive care including physiotherapists, chiropractors, exercise physiologists, general practitioners, mental health practitioners and more.

Sometimes your presenting conditions require specialist assessment before or after your remedial massage. We can happily refer you if required

On Going Care

Remedial massage at Macks Massage is always a treatment plan and not just a session. We aim to see you for an average of 3 appointments for your presenting condition. If there is no improvement, we will refer you to an allied and or complimentary therapist.

Stretches

Stretching is a major part of your remedial rehabilitation plan. Your therapist will prescribe you these stretches and may also refer you for strengthening treatment/training.

  • Myofascial Release: Uses gentle, sustained pressure on fascia to relieve tension and improve movement.
  • Stretching: Guides various exercises to improve flexibility, range of motion, and reduce stiffness.
  • Cross-Fiber Friction: Applies pressure across muscle fibers to break down adhesions and enhance mobility.
  • Muscle Energy Techniques (MET): Uses gentle muscle contractions against resistance to lengthen muscles and improve mobility.
  • Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD): Uses light, rhythmic strokes to stimulate the lymphatic system and remove excess fluids.
  • Thermotherapy: Applies heat or cold to reduce pain, inflammation, and promote healing.
  • Gait Analysis: Observes how a person walks or runs to identify abnormalities or imbalances.
  • Posture Assessment: Evaluates alignment to detect misalignments that may cause discomfort or pain.
  • Orthopedic Testing: Conducts specialized tests to diagnose musculoskeletal conditions and guide treatment.
